Our Story
The Dundas Agri Systems story dates back to 1981, when Bart Geleynse decided one beautiful Sunday morning, over coffee with a Dairy Farmer friend, that dairy automation was a space he wanted to be in.
Growing up, Geleynse lived life as a pastors son with no connection to farming, immigrating to Canada in 1960 from the Netherlands. A few paths in life were followed, including becoming an airplane mechanic focusing on electronics, shifting over to the RCMP as an Electronics Technologist.
Then, that fateful Sunday morning coffee with a friend (a Dairy Farmer) occurred – the discussion turned to automation and electronics, and how the Boumatic line was the most advanced, automated solution on the market. Right then and there, Bart was intrigued, and shortly after, DAS was born.
Being personable went a long way for Bart while developing the DAS relationships. Knocking on doors, milking along side dairy farmers he was calling on, and listening to the trials and tribulations of running a dairy farm when interest rates were hitting 20% in the 80’s gained a lot of trust, respect and friendship for Bart and the team.
The first project that DAS was involved with was unfortunately a Dairy Farm that had lost their barn to a fire. The Farmers son, Jerry, was hired and the barn was rebuilt with a Boumatic system. They continued to partner on renovations and milking improvements for over 20 years.
In the years following, DAS worked with Cornerview Farms and Dave Bryant Farms. Heads were starting to turn, and suddenly DAS was a major player in the Dairy equipment space.
The Farmer’s were not the only ones whose heads were starting to turn, though. Boumatic asked Bart to join their team in the late 90’s, sending him around the globe to Saudi Arabia, Japan, Australia, Dominican Republic, Lebanon and more. Eventually, in 2000 Bart moved to Boumatic full-time, leaving his son Luke Geleynse to manage the dealership during his 7 year stint in the USA. During his tenure with Boumatic, Bart was responsible for overseeing large dairy farm projects. Upon his return, robotic milking was starting to emerge and shake up the dairy scene in Canada. 2009 brought a partnership between DAS and Lely, and the rest is almost history.
After trials and tribulations, successes and celebrations, Bart started to consider his second childhood, or retirement, but needed to ensure that this family of customers he had built over the decades would be left in secure hands. In 2021, discussion with AgriHub started, and in 2022, the agreements were made, that the DAS succession plan would include the AgriHub Family of Companies.
